Branko Janjetović (1928-2016)

“We were taken to Jablanac. When Jablanac was full, then they moved us to Mlaka. There were a lot of abandoned Serbian houses. The Ustashas patrolled around the village all the time. One day they ordered all the boys whо were older than 12 to gather at the church. They told us that they would kill the ones who did not obey the order, as well as their family. I came to the church. There were a lot of boys and men. They aligned the men and guards took them away. The boys, including me, were told to go and learn crafts. They took us, as well. They did not allow us to go anywhere outside the camp. When we came to Jasenovac, we entered through the big gate, where Ljubo Miloš was waiting for us. He singled out the younger men. Only the older ones remained. The children were taken down the camp along the wire. Two young Ustashas of our age were in the camp as well. They wore uniforms and had double-edged daggers. A few days later, they started picking one of us up, poking him with the dagger…And he slapped the Ustasha in the face. That was when they brought the older Ustashas. They beat him and tortured him to death before our eyes and then chased him away to the chain premises. As the others told us, they first tormented and then killed him there. The poor boy never came back”.
