In mid 1950s, former detainees and victims’ descendants spontaneously started to gather at the former Brickyard concentration camp location. The gathering prompted the municipal organization of SUBNOR from Jasenovac to indicate the camp area with wooden signs designating major facilities. An organized initiative for the construction of a memorial centre to honour Jasenovac victims started in Belgrade in 1958 as the survivors built in 1966, and the Memorial museum and the Memorial centre opened in 1968.from the concentration camp founded their own association. The monument was built in 1966, and the Memorial Museum and Centre opened in 1968.
